Clapham Common, a beloved green space in the heart of London, has been an integral part of the community for over a century. However, in recent years, the park had started to show signs of neglect, with littering, vandalism, and other issues threatening to undermine its value to the community.
To address these challenges, The Clapham Common Management Advisory Committee (CCMAC), a community-led park management organization, decided to partner with Web Waveforms. Our mandate was clear: create a comprehensive strategy that would enable the local community to take ownership of the park and ensure its long-term sustainability.
Our first step was to engage with the community, conducting surveys and focus groups to understand their needs and expectations. We then used this information to co-create a community engagement strategy that involved the local community in park management decisions.
To facilitate this, we created an online platform that enabled the community to provide feedback on park maintenance and to offer suggestions for improvement. We also organized regular community events and workshops that provided opportunities for residents to learn about park management and environmental education.
Our efforts paid off. Within six months of implementing the strategy, we witnessed a 50% increase in park usage, with the local community taking an active role in park maintenance and management. Littering and vandalism reduced significantly, while the park’s value as a green space for the community was renewed.
This case study exemplifies the power of community-led park management and the role it plays in ensuring the long-term sustainability of green spaces. It also showcases Web Waveforms’ commitment to working with organizations like CCMAC to create a positive impact in the community.
